Guincho beach has a 750m coastline and is located in a natural dip on the southern side of the Serra de Sintra hills. The forceful surf has built a sandy beach in this valley, while strong winds have driven the sands inland, forming sand dunes and a healthy coastal environment.

The Praia do Guincho is located within the Serra de Sintra natural park, which has kept the area free of substantial development. It's hard to think that such a beautiful beach is only a 35-minute drive from the center of Lisbon or a 20-minute bus journey from Cascais.

The beach has a rough and rocky feel to it, yet it has adequate services, with two sets of beach cafes/restaurants/showers/car parks on the northern and southern sides of the beach.

A coastal pathway that snakes around the cliff tops begin at the beach (part of the PR4 hiking route). It is also the terminus of the Ciclovia do Guincho, a 9-kilometer cycling route leading to Cascais.
